May we hear from an economist regarding the environment we are in, which nobody will escape? I checked your Substack archives to see if you brought some economic context and clarity to what's happening now. Trump is running the economy into a ditch…again. Though the full impact of Trump’s massive layoffs of federal workers, erratic and inflationary tariffs, and plans for a huge deficit increase have yet to be felt, the economy is sputtering. If these trends continue—and there is no sign that Trump will magically become stable or economically literate—the economic situation will deteriorate further. Can you bring some economic literacy forward and help us understand what's real, what's fabricated, and what is entirely possible if all individuals exercise the power of our own thoughts and the power of our purse?
Both Sage Economics (@Anirban Basu) and Noahpinion (@Noah Smith) are posting this information. I don’t have enough data to post on this yet. Also check out @Paul Krugman. You can get the last Sage Economics post for free—I think this might answer your questions.
I need to do an economic data update, as I did last year. As soon as we have first quarter GDP and March unemployment and February inflation numbers, I’ll do that. Thanks for the nudge.
Wow, this is insightful. I can't imagine writing or reading book on economics. My dad had dual degrees, one in economics and the other in business. He tried so hard to teach and explain "money and how it worked" to me... instead I found a job dealing dice in a casino and made a feeble attempt at learning statistics and probabilities. It was the worst EVER (besides sitting with my dad and not understanding one concept he tried to teach me).
On the other hand, I did learn game theory & psychology easily, coupled with rules and regulations. Both proved to be valuable in life.
Excellent article, thank you for sharing this experience—I'm sure you saved someone a lot of pain before trying to write a book like yours.
Inspiring piece. Thank you!
Thanks!

Thanks for this, Nikki--it's well thought out and helpful.
