I've taken inspiration from you here and turned my old blog site into an author page. Many hours later, I am wishing I just followed your advice to do this simply and easily. I welcome suggestions and feedback! See https://www.klugne.com/.
Love the clean, fresh look and easy navigation. Also love that you invoked The Buddha (I'll take tiny credit for recommending some Buddha books to you). Looks like Ghost provided tools you found workable--I'm sticking with my easy-as-pie web system for the untechnicals. Would you like to write a guest post for me on how you convert your short writings to books or vice versa? It would be a real hit with my readers and would put your website link in front of a few thousand people. (3900 with a 75% reading rate...)
Maryan, I find your author website to be refreshingly clean and easy to navigate. You leave this reader with the impression that you have much valuable insight well-worth pursuing. That's a testament to good website design, because I know you do indeed have much to offer writers. Well done and thank you!
True, its very easy these days to get a digital presence done by creating a simple website.
I co-run an website dev agency. Now a days, we as well end up completing a relatively complex website in days or weeks not months. AI has grown enough for people to make simple websites to be completed without much effort.
Hmm. Having given up my website in the last year, I'm now wondering if I should have done that.
Hey, Maryan, I see you have three books for sale on Amazon that are not part of Pen2Profit. Want to list one or more of them at https://bookauthorsandreaders.substack.com. I closed down a similar pub on Medium because it wasn't going anywhere, along with most other stuff on Medium it seems, but hope to make a go of it on Substack. This new pub is for book authors to showcase their books and for readers to find, read, and review them. It brings together information about a book with all its reviews, regardless of whether published on Amazon, people's blogs, Substack ... wherever.
I looked at your pub—I don’t completely understand the how and what. Digging deeper, I found some posts about your publication and what you do. Right now, this might not be the best fit for me, but I like what you're doing.
If you decide sometime to list your book about Weekee Watchee Springs, I’ll be the first to review it. For years, I wanted to go there, then discovered it had been closed.
To answer your implied question about the how and what: You list your book in the publication. Substack readers then find your book in the pub, purchase it at your publisher’s site, write reviews anywhere online, and come back to this pub to re-post the reviews where they all be seen in one place on Substack. I think this is a good fit for any Substack book author who wants more reviews and for any Substack book reviewer who wants to support Substack book authors.
If this wasn’t clear when you looked at the pub, I’d very much appreciate suggestions for making it more clear. Or if the problem is that it really isn’t the best fit for you, I’d be as grateful to know why, so I can improve what I’m offering.
Note that you can list a book for free using the free trial period.
See, I really would like to read your book and review it.
I used to live about half a mile from Weeki Wachee Springs…my parents lived nearby for a decade or more. My kids grew up wandering the park and watching the mermaids. When I wrote the book, I interviewed dozens of original mermaids and mermen, some of whom were among the first performers (1949-1950). The park has had a shaky history, going from State owned, to closed, to privately owned, to city owned, and now back to State owned (with a major renovation a few years back.) https://weekiwachee.com/
My book was a joy to write—before there were apps to manipulate photos (2002-ish?) so we spread hundreds of photos across our living room floor and literally cut and pasted paper snippets of text to layout the book. It took a year—now, I’d say a couple months would do it. As I figured it would, the book is one of the publisher’s best-sellers because it has a dedicated cult following of superfans, mermaids, mermaids’ families, and friends of the park all over the world. My issue right now is a heavy workload of writing, posting, and deploying actionable strategies for other writers—my passion project. I kind of let the older books and projects support themselves. I appreciate your enthusiasm for your own project—I’ll keep it in my head. Consider turning it into a website and expanding the idea when you’re ready. I have this cool PDF that can teach you how to have a powerful website with little effort and even less budget.
It must have been fun. I do understand about time constraints. I can list your book for you if you like (it only takes 5 minutes). Just reply with a “yes.”
After years of trying to find ways to do without, I dove back in. My white paper report is the exact method I developed to create my terrific site without money, time, or trouble. It’s so cool! Have a look here: https://payhip.com/b/utkys

I agree, very important to have a website presence.
